The body confrontations and moral judgments of secondary school students against the school rules

Journal Title: Revista de Estudios Marítimos y Sociales - Year 2015, Vol 7, Issue 12

Abstract

This article deals with the observation and analysis of different empirical registers elaborated in order to investigate the regulatory establishment and the confrontational relations among the actors involved in the school setting. It particularly focuses on the analysis of the moral judgments of secondary students from a public school located in the suburban belt of La Matanza. The first register consist of registration sheets made by the school governing body for teachers, principals and headmasters to list the “faults” committed by the students. The second register consist of interviews made to 52 students throughout 2015, where their moral judgments regarding the current regulations in their school are identified and analyzed through their stimulation with hypothetical cases to evaluate and so decide -regarding the creation and application of regulations- which kind of school is fairer. We have identified different types of moral judgments among the students: the ones who consider fairer the regulations resulting from the cooperations among the different actors involved in the scholar institution, and the ones who believe that ‘adults’ know more and are better able to create and establish the rules.
