THE CAUSES OF DIFFICULTIES IN TEACHING SPEAKING SKILLS AND THE WAYS OF OVERCOMING THEM

Abstract
The article deals with the problem of teaching speaking skills in a foreign language (English), namely: it is described the psychological peculiarities of speaking, the characteristics of dialogue and monologue speech are given, arguments are given about why it is necessary to teach speaking skills, the notions of “noisy audience” and “uncontrolled audience” are distinguished, it is proved that “student-centered” classes are more conducive to language learning than teacher-oriented, the causes of poor speaking skills among Chinese students are detected and described the possible solutions of overcoming them, also there are some tips to teachers how to encourage students to speak.
