Abstract
Western literary genres, such as novels and theater in Turkish literature began to be recognized in the Tanzimat era. The story in modern sense is also a genre, that has gained our literacy through translation in this era, and with its own characteristics it is quite different from our old story understanding. In a qualified story, the message to be conveyed to the reader or the astonishing effect that will be left on the reader, is a power-setting criterion. In addition, due the fact that the story has less volume than the novel, it has the characteristics that it can be read shortly in terms of today’s readers. It is possible to mention many more specific features of the story, such as its ability to describe the human and the human’s adventure with life. Acting on these facts, it is the purpose of this study to examine the stories of Füruzan - a social realist writer-, to identify her storyteller’s identity and to determine her place in Turkish literature. We write up our study with an understanding which is placing the literary text into the center of the literary researches. In the stories we have examined, the problems of urban life, mostly occurred due to rapid urbanization, are explained. The way of perceiving life has caused a generation conflict between the poor people who struggle to hold on to life and their children. The most noteworthy people in the story are the girls in the suburbs who have not gone to school. The expectation from the life and the struggles to hold on to life of these girls are evaluated together with their social environment.
