THE COMMUNITY CENTER AND ITS ACTIVITIES
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 46
Abstract
The community centers were opened in 1932 and played a significant role in social transformation in Turkey. Among those was the Community Center of Malatya with 7 branches and 186 members at first. The Community Center of Malatya propagated and practically demonstrated the reforms and thoughts of the Republic with its 7 branches. The center comprised the branches of Language and Literature, Fine Arts, Representation, Sports, Social Aid, Library and Publication, and Peasantry. Afterwards, the branches of Public Schoolrooms and Courses, History, and Museum were opened, too. The community centers made it possible to reach the remoter parts of the country so as to propagate the party bylaw and conduct cultural activities there. In this context, the Community Center of Malatya attracted considerable attention with its activities. The community centers and rooms were deactivated in 1940s and closed in 1951 with the law no 5830.
