Abstract

This study has examined the comparative study of the performance of auditory and visual methods in terms of learning the Persian vocabulary in 4-year-old children, which is a semi-empirical and field study. The current study was held on 25 four-year-old children in two branches of “Nasl-E-Farda Kindergarten” in Karaj. For this purpose, after performing good-enough test, homogenizing them and obtaining their IQ through the calculation of standard deviation, 16 students with IQ average of 131.604 and 88.316 were selected to whom initially a pre-test, consisting of 30 words, was given. We gained access to their lexicon through recording their speech. Then they were randomly divided into two groups of 8 (4 males and 4 females in each group). After that, the researcher taught students 60 words (30 pre-test words and 30 more) through the two visual (through showing these 60 words on flash cards) and auditory (explaining these word orally) methods in 4 months. A post-test containing the same pre-test words was given to these two groups to understand whether this teaching method has been effective. In the end, according to the presented hypotheses: 1. Images and attention to visual information and methods has been more effective on the learning process of Farsi vocabulary in the four-year-olds and through that children can learn the vocabulary of their (mother-tongue) language better. 2. Understanding images can facilitate understanding systematic structure of language and bring about further stability and persistence in children’s minds. The two pre and post-tests were compared, and on the basis of the statistical data of the T-test that was presented, we found that the performance of the visual method has been better than the auditory one.
