THE CONCEPT OF “DISTRIBUTION” AND ITS TYPES (PROBLEMS OF THEORY AND PRACTICE )

Abstract

Problem setting. There are several definitions of the concept “distribution”. For instance, in the Dictionary of American production and inventory management distribution refers to actions related to the organization of the movement of materials, finished products and duplicate parts from the manufacturer to the consumer. These activities include transportation, warehousing, inventory management, materials handling, analysis of capacity and location of infrastructure units in distribution, industrial packaging, collection and processing of necessary information and telecommunication network necessary for effective material flow management. Analysis of recent researches and publications. Such scientists as Apopi V. V., Gaivanski N. V., Krykavski Ie. M., Lozinskyy V. T., etc. have devoted their works to study of questions on the implementation of distribution activities. Article’s main body. The author analyzes the doctrinal and legislative sources in order to establish the most complete definition of the concept of “distribution”, in particular, examines the subordinate normative legal acts and works of both domestic and foreign scientists. There is a list of types of distribution activities in the article; the essence and characteristics of the distribution, conditions and procedure of distribution activities are clarified; the concepts of distribution channels, strategy of market coverage and main stages of the implementation of distribution activities are examined. Conclusions and prospects for the development. Consequently, it can be stated that at present there is no single scientific and normative position on definition of such concept as “distribution”, and there are no types of it. Points of view on this issue can be divided into two groups: 1) distribution means the sale of goods; 2) distribution is product sales from the manufacturer to the end consumer, with the participation of the manufacturer and specially authorized middlemen– distributors, who are free to decide how to bring the goods to the end consumer: by making implementation or via retail agents. In the second case, the distribution is quite often characterized by the provision of such services by the distributor to the consumer as the preparation of goods for use, adjustment, warranty service, etc.
