Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2012, Vol 28, Issue 3

Abstract

The main aim of the undertaken research was to describe the relationship between the level of the undertaken physical activity and the health behaviours among young adults as well as the differences in the perception of health and a subjective health assessment. The research was carried out on 230 people including day and weekend students, post-secondary students and the participants of vocational courses. They comprised of sports-men and non-sportsmen. The measurement was done through Psychophysical Efficiency Assessment Questionnaire by Michałków, the List of Health Criteria (LHC) and Health Behaviours Inventory (HBI) designed by Juczyński as well as a self-designed scale for general health assessment. The conducted research confirm the existence of a relationship between the level of physical activity and other health behaviours. The more frequently individuals undertake activity the greater effort they put into proper nutrition and health prophylaxis as well as display more positive psychic attitude. It has also been proven than the social environment (the specialization of education) and gender modify the lifestyle. The highest level of activity is presented by the group of sportsmen, the lowest – by the groups of pedagogy and information technology students. The smallest amount of health behaviours is undertaken by the students of information technology, physical education – non-sportsmen and pedagogy, whereas the biggest amount by future fitness instructors, beauticians and hairdressers. Lifestyle is related to a higher subjective health assessment. The level of activity decreases as the participants grow older. Moderate physical activity is connected with maintaining positive health habits. Research reports indicate that such activities, defined as healthy life style, contribute to limiting the risk of civilization diseases, therefore being one of the methods of health prophylaxis.
