The Crisis of Public Administration in Nigeria
Journal Title: International Journal of Humanities and Social Science Invention - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 8
Abstract
The study examined the crisis of Public Administration, using the Nigerian experience. This became necessary in view of the identity crisis of public administration. The study relied on both primary and secondary sources of data. The findings of the study revealed that the crisis of public administration can be said to have at least three components: the mission of subject matter; the performance and its internal managerial qualities. These gave rise to myriad of problems which led to the question of the legitimacy of the field itself. Furthermore, the study revealed that the confusion from the historical antecedents of public administration has translated to the crisis among students, scholars and sometimes practitioners of the subject matter. The study concluded that having a generally accepted definition for public administration may not necessarily be the antidote to the identity crisis. Scholars should continue researches in the field to solve the identity crisis but should always remember that the interdisciplinary nature of the field remains an advantage.
