The Current Status of Levodopa Treatment in Parkinson’s disease
Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2012, Vol 25, Issue 1
Abstract
The views regarding ethiopatogenesis and symptomatology of Parkinson’s disease have undergone a gradual change in recent years. Levodopa still remais a basic drug used in the treatment of this disease, despite of numerous undesired side-effects. Currently there are ongoing researches aimed at the explanation of the mechanism of levodopa action with a prolonged effect, which may lead to the manufacturing of a new generation of levodopa-derived drugs. Also new therapeutic methods are currently being introduced, the purpose of which is providing a permanent dopaminergic stimulation.
