The deficits in emotional functioning in psychotic patients. Clinical observations of group psychotherapy
Journal Title: Psychoterapia - Year 2011, Vol 159, Issue 4
Abstract
The first part of the article presents data from studies on emotional disturbances in schizophrenia — the perception, experience and expressing of emotion. The abnormalities in the perception of emotional stimuli (including the interpretation of comprehensive social interaction) as well as these in the field of experience of emotions mostly refer to negative emotions. The mentioned difficulties are then followed by limitations in expression. Deficits in emotional processing hinder the social functioning of the patients since the informative, communicative and motivational functions of emotions is disturbed. The second part of the article is devoted to the mentioned features of the schizophrenic patient in the context of group psychotherapy sessions.
