THE DEVELOPMENT OF MUTUAL INDUCTANCE COMPUTATION TOOL FOR WIRELESS POWER TRANSFER

Abstract

Wireless power transmission systems, which aim to eliminate cable complexity and the difference between the connection terminals of devices, are now widely used in many areas such as mobile phone, toothbrush, shaver and electric vehicles. Studies show that the amount of power transferred and the system efficiency are inversely proportional to the distance between the transceiver coils. Therefore, while the wireless power transmission system is designed, it is necessary to determine the optimum distance between the transceiver coils in order for the system to operate at high efficiency. Although many software systems using finite element analysis can be used to determine the appropriate value of the distance between the transceiver, these softwares has a complex structure that requires expertise. In this study, a mutual inductance calculation tool low-cost, simple-to-use is introduced. Considering that the mutual inductance value directly affects the efficiency of the fixed frequency inductive wireless power transmission systems, a tool has been developed in which the relationship between the distance of transceiver and the efficiency is analyzed. The developed calculation tool is a unique application that can be used to calculate the mutual inductance and self-inductance values of the two identical coils with air-core for the different distance and alignment values. In addition, thanks to the visual interface designed, the position of the coils can be changed in the 3-dimensional coordinate system and the curves indicating the change of the mutual inductance value versus the transmission distance can be generated.
