THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FUTURE MUSIC TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE BY MEANS OF CONDUCTOR-CHOIR DISCIPLINES: PROCESS AND RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENT
Journal Title: Професіоналізм педагога: теоретичні й методичні аспекти - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
The article highlights current problem of the institutions of higher pedagogical education – professional training of primary school music teachers. The theoretical basis of the research grounds on the present-day scientific works in the field of professional training of music teachers, including conducting and choir training. Having analyzed conceptual standpoints of competent education, innovative approaches to the educational process and updated requirements for the professional activity of a music teacher, we try to define a structural and functional model of development of the future music teachers’ professional competence by means of conductor-choral disciplines, which is implemented through orientation, target, content, process-technological and productive units. Here we describe the process of the experiment according to organizational and modeling (information-methodological, motivational-stimulating, organizational-correcting directions) as well as control-practical stages. At the first stage of experimental work within information-methodical direction a set of steps is conducted in order to implement an integrative, interdisciplinary approach in the development of the future music teachers’ professional competence, in particular the application of close contentmethodological connections while studying conductor-choral disciplines. The experimental training is organized according to the developed program of comprehensive development of the professional competence of the future music teachers in the process of studying conductor-choral disciplines. The program of experimental training covers four disciplines i.e. “Choir Studies”, “Choral Conducting”, “Choral Class”, “Choral arrangement”. The motivation-stimulating direction is to provide the educational environment optimal for the creative self-realization of the future music teachers in the process of studying conductor-choral disciplines. This direction includes participation of the students’ experimental groups in choir groups as well as competitions in conducting skills. The organizational-correcting direction of the experiment is to promote the personal orientation in the professional development of the future music teachers through the effective organization of students’ self-study process. The experimental training of the students within this direction is fulfilled through doing self-study assignments with the choir team at extra-class time. At the second (organizational-corrective) stage of the experiment a practice-oriented approach to a modern music teacher’s training is implemented. The main form of this implementation is the students’ conductor-choral practice at school choirs (within the pedagogical practice at the 4th year of study). The author presents the results of a complex review of the development of the professional competence of the future music teachers by means of conductor-choral disciplines as well as analyses these results according to certain criteria, and proves the model efficiency and relevant pedagogical conditions. The paper also confirms the necessity of involving modern models in the professional training of specialists in the higher educational establishments.
