Journal Title: Gastroenterologia Polska - Year 2007, Vol 14, Issue 3
Abstract
Early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer remain a great challenge of contemporary medicine. Recent dynamic development of imaging techniques has not influenced the effectiveness of treatment. This fact strongly suggests the need to search for additional diagnostic tools that could improve the early detection of this disease. The differentiation between chronic panereatitis and pancreatic cancer is a specific diagnostic dilemma. In this context pancreatic juice cytology as well as pancreatic and biliary brush cytology seempromising, especially in the aspect of their high specificity. When introduced to diagnostic standards, they should improve early detection of pancreatic cancer and hencetherapeutic results.
