The Effect of Conspiracy Theories on Covid-19 on Vaccine Hesitancy: The Mediating Role of Vaccine Attitude

Abstract

: It is a fact that there are various conspiracy theories about covid -19, which was first seen at the end of 2019 and declared a pandemic in March 2020. In general, these theories are that covid-19 was produced artificially, in fact, such a disease does not exist, and it was put forward as a political policy. The existence of these conspiracy theories also causes hesitation against vaccines, which play the most important role in eliminating epidemics. This also affects the vaccination attitude. For all these reasons, the aim of this study is to reveal the effect of conspiracy theories against covid-19 on vaccine hesitancy and the mediating role of vaccine attitude. For this purpose, 401 people aged 18 and over, residing in Düzce and applying to the family medicine unit at least once, were reached. A face-to-face questionnaire was applied to these people. The data of the study were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS package programs. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the model was compatible. It has been determined that there is a relationship between conspiracy theories about Covid-19 and vaccine hesitancy, and the vaccine attitude also plays a mediating role
