The Effect of Different Narrow and Twin Row Sowing Methods on The Quality Properties of Maize in Clay-Textured Soil
Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2023, Vol 7, Issue 3
Abstract
In this study, the effect of different narrow row and double row sowing methods on the quality characteristics of maize grain was investigated. In this study, ADA 351 and Sakarya maize cultivars were used in soil conditions with clay structure in Diyarbakır province, where the main crop maize is grown. A separate trial has been established for each maize cultivar. In the study, which was carried out for two years in 2016 and 2017 years, each trial was carried out according to the randomized blocks trial design. Sowing methods are line abreast narrow row, diagonal narrow row, line abreast twin row, diagonal twin row, single row 1 (70 cm row spacing, 20 cm intra-row spacing) and single row 2 (70 cm row spacing, 12.5 cm intra-row spacing) determined. As a result of the study carried out with the ADA 351 variety, the highest 1000 kernel weight was obtained from the single row 1 application, the highest unit area protein yield and unit area oil yield were obtained from single row 2 application. In the experiment carried out with Sakarya variety, the highest grain protein ratio was obtained from the cross-narrow row application, the highest 1000 kernel weight was obtained from the single row 1 application. As a result of the correlation analysis, a strong positive relationship was found between grain yield and protein yield per unit area, and oil yield per unit area in both trials.
