The effect of gender and age on the accuracy of time estimation

Abstract

Purpose:The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of time estimation in children in comparison to adolescents according to task (mono versus dual task). Methodology: For this purpose, 134 students in Tabriz were selected by Multi-stage cluster sampling. In this study, computerized test were used for collecting data to measure the accuracy of time estimation. The gathered data were analyzed by SPSS 16 software. Descriptive statistics, paired t-test, independent t-test and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were applied to analysis of data. Findings: The findings of this study were following: 1) under-estimation of time was observed in both groups (children and adolescents). 2). The Accuracy of time estimation in children, were less than adolescents, in both mono-and dual task. Conclusion and discussion: the results of the present research show that sensitivity to time increases with increased age.
