Abstract

The present study is of experimental-field type with pretest-posttest design with control group and was conducted with the aim of exploring the effect of group training of metacognitive techniques on obsessive-compulsive disorder in obsessive-compulsive male students at dormitories of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. The population of this study was consisted of all male students at dormitories of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz in 2011-2012 academic year. The sample of the study was consisted of 60 students having obsessive-compulsive symptoms which were selected by multistage random sampling and were assigned into an experimental group and a control group randomly. The research tool was consisted of Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (MOCI) and Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS). After performing the pretest, the experimental group received 8 sessions of group training of metacognitive techniques but the control group received no intervention. Posttest was performed on both groups after intervention sessions. The findings of one-way analysis of covariance indicated that training metacognitive techniques has impacted obsessive-compulsive disorder in the experimental group.
