THE EFFECT OF HUMIDITY AND TEMPERATURE OF AIR ON THE STATIC FRICTION COEFFICIENT OF SELECTED METAL–POLYMER SLIDING COUPLES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 239, Issue 5

Abstract

Environmental conditions significantly affect the value of the coefficient of static friction during co-operation of sliding machine elements. The studies about the influence of temperature on the friction processes can be found in the literature, but there is little information about the effect of humidity on these processes. The authors have attempted to analyse the influence of temperature and humidity on the coefficient of static friction of chosen sliding couples (a polymeric material on metal) under dry friction conditions in a climate chamber at temperatures ranging from +10°C to +90°C and relative humidity from 35% to 95%. Tribological investigations in the static friction were carried out on the rig “pin-on-disk.”
