The Effect of Instructing IELTS Fixed Expressions as the Frame to improve Iranian EFL Learners’ Speaking Ability

Abstract

The present study investigated the effect of Instructing IELTS Fixed Expressions as the Frame to improve Iranian EFL Learners’ Speaking Ability. To do this, 100 English learners of Borna Language Teaching Center in Rasht were given a proficiency test (OPT). Those whose scores ranged from 15 to 19 out of 20 were selected to participate in the study. First all the participants were given pretest and then randomly assigned to two groups: one control group that received placebo (the existing method) and one experimental group that received IELTS Fixed Expressions. The researcher herself taught the treatment of the experimental group in 5 sessions. Then posttests were given to two groups and the data was analyzed through calculating paired t-test and ANCOVA coefficient. The results indicated that IELTS Fixed Expressions affects speaking ability.
