THE EFFECT OF KINESIOTAPING ON NEUROMUSCULAR CONTROL DURING PROCESS OF MAINTAINING DYNAMIC BALANCE - A PILOT STUDY

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2015, Vol 31, Issue 2

Abstract

Background. Neuromuscular control is crucial in process of maintaining balance and dynamic joints stabilization during complex motor act. One of the method which may affect at proprioception is kinesiotaping. Level of neuromuscular control can be evaluated basing on ankle joint stability during single-leg stand. Thus aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of kinesiotaping on neuromuscular control measured during process of maintaining dynamic balance in standing position in young healthy people.Material and methods. Forty healthy volunteers was enabled to the study (15 men, 25 women, age 21,6±1,6). Ankle stability was measured with Biodex Balance System SD. Subjects had applied kinesio tape at medial and lateral malleolus in non-dominant limb. Participants were asked for single-leg stand at the unstable platform with and without application. The test was performed twice for each limb.Results. No significant differences were observed between taped and untaped condition, values obtained respectively: OVS 3,17±1,22 vs. 3,46±1,55, APS 2,46±1,14 vs. 2,67± 1,33, MLS 1,52±0,68 vs. 1,68±0,82. Statistically significant differences (p<0,05) between first and second task in non-dominant limb (OVS 3,77±1,54 vs. 2,87±2,13, APS 3,00±1,37 vs. 2,13±0,91, MLS 1,71±0,71 vs. 1,48± 0,73) were observed.Conclusions. Participants have a tendency to obtain lower values in all parameters during test with application. Moreover, the process of learning sensomotoric control was observed.
