The effect of long-time storage of MUF resin on its physical and chemical properties

Abstract
The effect of long-time storage of MUF resin on its physical and chemical properties. Melamine-urea- formaldehyde resin was subjected to 21-month ageing at 20°C. The analysis of the changes in its physical and chemical properties was done. It was shown that gel time at 20°C shortened by ca. 50%, viscosity increased by 100-fold and aggregates large enough for optical microscopy appeared. Regardless of those processes, the bondline shear strength and wood failure rate remained comparable to those found for non-aged resin. Keywords:
