THE EFFECT OF OIL POCKETS ON THE ABRASIVE WEAR OF A SLIDING ASSEMBLY
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 232, Issue 4
Abstract
In this paper, the results of abrasive wear resistance tests of assemblies with textured (burnished) surfaces are shown. The area density of oil pockets was in the range of 10 to 20%. The created pits can be both the reservoirs of lubricating oil and the places of wear debris presence. The results of investigations were carried out for two different material assemblies: steel-cast iron and steel-bronze were presented and compared. As an effect of investigations, we obtained the considerable improvement of wear resistance for the textured steel-cast iron pair. The abrasive wear resistance of the sliding steel-textured-bronze pair decreased in comparison to variants without dimples.
