Journal Title: Journal of Drug Delivery and Therapeutics - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 3

Abstract

Omega® Roots + Ginseng Aloe Vera herbal mixture is a commonly sold herbal formulation used for treatment of ailments. The aim of this study is to evaluate the toxic effect of Omega® Roots herbal mixture on the haematological parameters of Wistar rats. Twenty rats were used for this study and were divided into four groups of 5 animals each; the control group was administered normal saline 10 ml/kg, and the treated groups received 250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, and 1000 mg/kg of the herbal mixture (Omega® Roots) a period of fourteen days after which blood samples were collected for haematological analysis. The results of this study showed that oral administration of the Omega® Roots extract had a non-significantly (P˃0.05) change in the red blood cell count, white blood cell count, packed cell volume, and hemoglobin concentration of the Wistar rats. The findings suggest that Omega® Roots + Ginseng Aloe Vera herbal mixture is non-haematotoxic following acute administration.
