Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2023, Vol 8, Issue 3

Abstract

Project AGKARABASA is a reading intervention program that aims to improve the reading skills of Filipino children, specifically children in the Municipality of Villaverde. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Project AGKARABASA on the reading comprehension of Grade-7 students in Bintawan National High School in English. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test control group. The sample consisted of 80 Grade-7 students who were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group. The experimental group underwent the AGKARABASA intervention, while the control group received the regular instruction. A standardized reading comprehension test was administered to both groups as a pre-test and post-test. The results of the study showed that the experimental group had a significantly higher mean post-test score compared to the control group. This suggests that Project AGKARABASA has a positive effect on the reading comprehension of Grade-7 students in Bintawan National High School in English. The study provides insights for educators and policy makers in implementing effective reading intervention programs to improve students' reading comprehension skills.
