The effect of savory (Satureja khuzistanica) essential oils on performance, liver and kidney functions in broiler chickens
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 22, Issue 1
Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the effect of supplementation of 0 (control-), 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 g . l−1 essential oils of Satureja khuzistanica (EOSk) or 3 g . l−1 polysorbate-80 (control+) into drinking water using 420 one-day-old Cobb 500 broiler chicks up to day 28 of age. The EOSk-treated water significantly suppressed the productive performance of the birds (P < 0.05). Addition of EOSk to water at 2.5 g . l−1 caused significant increases in liver weight and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase activity (P < 0.05). A significant decrease was found in the average serum uric acid concentration for the birds receiving water supplemented with EOSk at 0.5 to 2.5 g . l−1. It is concluded that persistent inclusion of EOSk at 0.5 to 2.5 g . l−1. into drinking water suppressed performance of broiler chickens during the early growth periods. No indication was found of hepato-suppressive effects of EOSk up to g . l−1.

The effect of dietary yellow lupine (L. luteus cv. Baryt) on growth performance, carcass characteristics, meat quality and selected serum parameters of turkeys
This study evaluated the effects of dietary replacement of soyabean meal (SBM) with yellow lupine seed meal (YLM) in turkeys. A total of 1120 one-day-old Hybrid Converter female turkeys were fed diets containing 0%, 8%,...
Changes in integrin-positive cells and T cell subpopulations in the peripheral blood and intestine of calves fed soya protein
integrin expression, 16 male 10-day-old Holstein calves were divided into two groups. For 28 days of the experiment, eight males were fed NutriMilk in which 50% of the crude protein was soya protein, and eight control an...
Influence of different dietary oil sources on performance and fatty acid profile of egg yolk in laying hens
Laying hens were fed diets containing sunflower, fish, linseed and rapeseed oil with 2 levels of inclusion (1.5 and 3.0%) for 12 weeks. Egg production, egg weight, feed intake, feed conversion and liveweight were not sig...
