THE EFFECT OF THE MAXIMAL PHYSICAL EFFORT ON PLASMA NORADRENALINE HORMONE IN ICE HOCKEY PLAYERS
Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2010, Vol 26, Issue 4
Abstract
Background. Noradrenaline is the substance which has a role of the main neurotransmitter of the sympathetic nervous system. Under the influence of noradrenaline, the body may adapt to new conditions. The goal of the study was to evaluate the effect of physical effort on changes in noradrenaline concentration in the group of regularly training ice-hockey players who underwent exercise test (test ”until refusal”). Material and methods. The sample comprised 20 ice-hockey players aged 16.7±0.6 years. The competitors performed exercise test ”until refusal” on a cycloergometer. At the same time VO2max was measured. The subjects had their venous blood sampled prior to, following the exercise test and after two hours following the test. The plasma noradrenaline level was determined using radioimmunoassay (RIA).Results. The mean time of exercise test in the study sample was 21.4±1.6 and the mean value for exercise performed amounted to 3328.8±470.1 J/kg; the mean VO2max was 53.5±5.2 ml/kg/min. Prior to exercise, mean noradrenaline concentration was within the limits of the physiological norm. Immediately following exertion, statistically significant increase (2.5 times) in mean noradrenaline level was noted. Two hours after exercise, noradrenaline concentration decreased below the initial values. No statistically significant differences were noted in the noradrenaline level increase due to exercise performance in the subgroups of attackers and defenders. A positive correlation between pre-exercise adrenalin concentration and VO2max (r=0.77, p<0.05) was noted in the group of attackers. Conclusions. The 2.5-fold increase, which was noted in noradrenaline concentration due to physical exertion and its quick restitution indicated that the subjects were well trained.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND CYTOKINES
Prolonged and intense exercise increases the liberation of several cytokines which could be produced by muscle cells, especially when they are damaged. During a physical effort there is a balance between pro-inflammatory...
