The Effectiveness of Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs in Patients with Neurocompressive Pain Syndrome of Lumbosacral Spine in Degenerative Dystrophic Diseases

Journal Title: Біль. Суглоби. Хребет - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 19

Abstract

This article provides a retrospective analysis of medical records of 38 patients (28 women and 10 men) aged 54.7 ± 2.2 (27 to 86) years, who underwent conservative hospital treatment with a diagnosis of osteochondrosis, protrusion or herniated disc, lumbar spinal stenosis. Personal data (according to Roland-Morris (RM) scale, visual analogue scale (VAS)), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and the index of recovery; X-ray data and neurological examination findings were statistically assessed before and after the treatment. As a result, the positive dynamics of the quality of life indicator according to Roland-Morris questionnaire and Oswestry Disability Index has been noted both immediately after the treatment (RM = 27.1 %, ODI = 30.5 %), and in 6 months (PM = 32.7 %, ODI = 35.2 %). The high effectiveness of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants has been observed in the treatment of neurocompressive pain syndrome in patients according to VAS (89.5 % of patients noted regression of pain syndrome immediately after the treatment, in 86.8 % of patients the outcome was positive for 6 months). Univariate analysis of variance showed that the presence of scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, L4-L5 instability and deforming arthrosis of the hip joints in patients are negative prognostic signs of the treatment efficiency.
