The Effects Of Artificial Insemination Time On Pregnancy In Awassi Sheep During The Breeding Season

Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2022, Vol 6, Issue 1

Abstract

The breeding of domestic sheep breeds is of critical importance for the future of sheep breeding. Artificial insemination is one of the biotechnological methods used for breeding. The time of artificial insemination is an important factor that can affect the pregnancy rate in sheep. The present study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the time of artificial insemination and pregnancy in 49 Awassi sheep. During the breeding season, the estrus sheep whose heat was synchronized with progesterone-containing sponge (fluorogestene acetate, Chronogest CR, MSD), PMSG (Chronogest/PMSG, MSD) and PGF2α (Estrumate, MSD) were determined and divided into 3 groups. Group 1 (n:16) 10 hours after estrus, Group 2 (n:17) 15 hours after estrus and Group 3 (n:16) 18 hours after estrus was inseminated intracervically. After 30-35 days, pregnancy examination was done via ultrasound. When the results were examined, there was no statistical difference between the groups. When the numerical data of the study were examined, the pregnancy rate of the group inseminated 18 hours after estrus was found to be 18.8 points numerically higher than those inseminated after 10 hours and 23.5 points higher than those inseminated after 15 hours. As a result of the study, it was concluded that intracervical insemination 10 hours, 15 hours and 18 hours after estrus synchronization as applied in the study during the breeding season in Avesi sheep did not significantly change the pregnancy rate, but intracervical artificial insemination 18 hours after the detection of estrus may be beneficial.
