The efficiency of cementing smooth and serrated standard glass fibres with composite cement
Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2012, Vol 62, Issue 1
Abstract
Aim of the study. Standard glass fibre posts were introduced almost 20 years ago and are still the subject of research works. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of cementing smooth and serrated standard glass fibres with composite cement and to define the effect of the serrated surface on shear strength.Material and method. Selected standard posts, smooth and serrated, were cemented into roots. Both posts and roots were placed in collets, which were the adapters with strength machine. The results of shear tests were presented.Results. The higher values of shear strength and stress were obtained in the group of serrated glass fibre posts.Conclusions. Composite cement shows good adhesion to glass fibre posts. As we still strive to achieve a better retention, it is recommended to apply serrated glass fibre posts.
