The evolution of school career counselling in the opinion of school and university students

Abstract

In the theoretical part of the paper a decision-making process is presented―the phase of orientation in the context of cognitive processes of “self-identification” and the world of occupations together with the labour market. Theoretical and legal assumptions allow the Ewolucja szkolnego doradztwa zawodowego w ocenie uczniów i studentów freedom in organising school vocational guidance based on the Inner School Vocational Guidance System―and/or activity of a school counsellor. A brief analysis of the qualifications required from school counsellors in Poland and in the European Union indicates their comparability. The empirical part of the paper presents the results of the research conducted in the years 2003/2004 and 2005/2006, as well as in 2012/2013 on a population of lower secondary school students, secondary school students and a group of university students. The aim of the above mentioned research was to diagnose the legitimacy of creating a network of professional guidance centres in Tarnów Poviat schools and the expectations of lower-secondary school students during the school change. The further editions of studies already had a diagnostic and evaluative character. Based on the data analysis, the external and internal barriers have been indicated which influence the effective career counselling.
