The Ghost of Freedom. The Fate of Democratic Institutions in Ukraine

Abstract
Established during the years of state independence of Ukraine, such institutions of a democratic society as parliament, general electoral law, power branches division, democratic Constitution, multi-party system, numerous public organizations, nongovernment mass media etc., do not find support among the overwhelming majority of the Ukrainian population. There is a contradiction between the existing democratic institutions and the socio-psychological factors that make people reject them, obviously because of their formal nature. Democratic institutions have a purely external, decorative character and are not rooted in the socio-psychological structure of society.
