The Impact of English Proficiency on the Personality Development and Decision Making of Teacher Education Students

Abstract

The medium of instruction that the Philippines uses are Filipino, English, and mother tongue. English language plays a big role in the Philippine education because of its usages after finishing school. The notion towards English proficiency is that the more proficient you are, the higher the chances of success in the professional field. This is the main reason why the researchers decided to conduct this study in order to determine whether or not English language proficiency impact the personality development and decision making of students. In addition, the researchers identified the significant relationship and difference of its impact when grouped according to the respondents' profile. The sampling technique used in identifying the respondents is the stratified proportional sampling technique. The researchers utilized descriptive correlation design, a quantitative method of research, commonly used to investigate the relationship between variables. The statistical tools that were utilized to determine the results are the following: frequency and percentage, weighted mean, Chi-square test, T-test, and ANOVA. The findings of the study implicate that English language proficiency has a positive impact on the personality development and decision making of students. The results that were revealed served as a motivation for the researchers to design an intervention plan that could develop the identified weaknesses of the respondents.
