THE IMPACT OF LABOR MIGRATION ON HOUSEHOLDS AND FAMILY RELATIONS IN TAJIKISTAN

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the influence of labor migration on family pattern transformation, the reproductive and matrimonial behavior of the population in Tajikistan. The subject of the research is topical, as Tajikistan is one of the countries that sends its labor migrants abroad more actively. The vast majority of them move to Russia to find a job. To find out the transformation of labor migrants’ family relations, there conducted surveys in the form of questioning and depth interviews in Tajikistan and Russia in the years of 2012-2013 within the research. These transformations make not just a considerable influence on the life of families and society, but also they can influence the demographic development of the country in the future. The phenomenon “guest marriages” that often accompanies labor migration is considered in the article.
