The Impact of Personal Values on Entrepreneurship Tendency: The Role of Demographic Characteristics

Journal Title: Journal of the Human and Social Science Researches - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 2

Abstract

The main problem of this study is the assumption that entrepreneural personal attraction, perceived entrepreneural capacity and basically entrepreneural intention could be explained through values acquired during the processes of personality and culture formation. Moreover, revealing how the effects of values on entrepreneurship variables differ according to demographic characteristics is the unique contribution of this study. According to the results of the study, data of which were collected from 512 undergraduate students from management and economics programs, entrepreneurship tendency was predicted by values of self-empowerment and openness to change. When analyses were conducted for different demographic variables seperately, it was found that the openness to change values of individuals having grown up in rural areas and having more limited financial means and of women predict entrepreneurship, whereas self-empowerment values of the students having other demographic characteristics predict entrepreneural intentions.
