THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN ENSURING FOOD SAFETY

Abstract
The population of the world has increased incredibly during the last two hundred years. This fact puts the issue of providing food required by the humankind to live at the top of world’s agenda. In today’s world, around 800 million people live at the starvation point. In order to meet the food demand of the world population, several measures are being taken at regional, national and international levels during the last fifty years. The aim of this article to study the level of the international cooperation for ensuring global food security in today’s world. The main objectives are to identify the criteria and indicators of food security, international cooperation aspects, and problems of potential sources and to examine the relation between global development and the other problems. In addition, an attention is given to the direct correlation between the food insecurity and refugee and migrant problems occurred due to terrorist incidents and armed conflicts happened in the recent years in the world.
