THE INCREASE OF PLOUGHSHARE TEMPERATURE AS THE EFFECT OF SOIL FRICTION DURING WORK

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 253, Issue 1

Abstract

The surface temperature of ploughshares was measured during ploughing carried out in two conditions. Measurements were taken at two points on the surface of ploughshare using a contact thermometer and by means of thermal imaging of the whole surface. It was found that, depending on the working conditions, the surface temperature measured at two points of ploughshare was higher by about 4 to almost 9°C than the temperature of the cultivated soil. The surface of the bow section of the ploughshare underwent stronger heating, probably due to more soil stress. It was also found that pre-treatment of the surface of ploughshare to take measurements with thermal imaging cannot be used to determine the temperature distribution on the surface. A number of factors may affect the value of the ploughshares’ operating temperature, the importance of which requires experimental confirmation.
