THE INFLUENCE OF MODIFIED ADDITIVE ON USING PROPERTIES OF ECOLOGICAL GREASES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 229, Issue 1

Abstract

In this article, the investigation result on the influence of additive silica and Teflon on lubricating properties of selected lubricated compositions are presented. For modification of greases made on silica-mineral and mineral bases, modified silica thickened with lithium stearate and was used in the shape of Teflon powder and colloidal silica at a ratio 3:2. Tribological tests were carried out using four-ball apparatus for lubricants not containing the modified additive and compared them with the results obtained for greases modified with the additive mentioned above. For the estimation of these properties, the results of investigations limiting load of wear, weld point, scuffing load, limiting load of scuffing and limiting pressure of seizure were used. On the basis of tribological properties of the examined greases, we concluded that additive of silica and Teflon influences the greases by increasing the anti-scuffing properties of lubricating compositions. Simultaneously, insignificant deterioration of antiwear properties is not disqualifying examined greases for practical applications.
