THE INFLUENCE OF THE ADDITIVES OF PTFE OR Cu IN GREASE ON ITS LUBRICATION EFFICIENCY

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 255, Issue 3

Abstract

The article presents the results of experimental studies on the effects of additives in grease on the lubrication efficiency (steel sliding nodes) of its compositions using one filler – powder PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) or copper. Analysis covered lubricating compositions created based on lithium grease 1S with additives – adhesive and antioxidant (commercial grease) and the compositions of the same lubricant without additives. Tested compositions contained 1 and 6% by weight of one adopted filler. Investigations were carried out using a standard four–ball extreme pressure tester in accordance with PN-76/C-04147 "Tests of Oils and Lubricants.” The effectiveness of the lubrication of the following oils based on three criteria were examined, i.e. balls wear “d,” welding load “Fz” and limit wear load index “Goz.” The results were statistically handled at a confidence level of 95% using Student’s t-test. The obtained results were presented graphically. They allow a qualitative assessment of the impact of the composition of the grease 1S to improve the lubrication efficiency of composition grease–additive applied to the steel sliding nodes working in a mixed friction area.
