THE INFLUENCE OF THE TYPE OF THICKENER ON TRIBOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF LUBRICATING GREASES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 235, Issue 1

Abstract

In this article, the authors present the results of investigations on the influence dispersed phase on the lubricating properties of selected lubricated compositions. For production plastic greases used to mineral oil basis, which then thickens lithium stearate, calcium stearate, complex lithium soap, modified silica and mixtures of teflon and methylated silica. The investigation of lubricating properties were carried out for research groups of lubricated compositions and the obtained results were compared to account for the influence of the thickener on the value of research parameters. The results of investigations on the limiting load of wear, weld point, scuffing load, the limiting load of scuffing, and the limiting pressure of seizure were used for the estimation of tribological properties. Using the results of the tribological investigations selected for lubricated compositions, we were able to ascertain the most advantageous compositions for the antiwear properties of plastic greases that influence calcium stearate; however, the best protection against antiscuffings are silica and polymer-silica thickeners.
