Abstract
Paper gives short information about wave phenomena like translational waves and near-critical flows, which can occur within different hydrotechnical structures. It emphases properties of wave phenomena and their influence on hydrotechnical structures. The paper shows main equations that describe the free-surface profile of wavelike near-critical flows and translational waves. It was made comparing of free-surface profile of near-critical flows with laboratory data, and free-surface profile of translational waves with field observation. The comparison of results shows their good convergence. Analysis of received laboratory data allowed to obtain the general solution of free-surface profile of near-critical flows with accounting possible flow curvature in vertical plane and non-hydrostatics pressure distribution in initial section of near-critical flows. Analysis of field observation of translational waves showed that it was necessary to take into account coefficient of lateral water inflow in mathematical modelling of translational waves. All these factors should be accounting during designing of hydrotechnical structures which can be operated in conditions of mentioned wave phenomena’s formation.
