The Investigation of UptakeTrace Elements by Aloe Vera Plant

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 4, Issue 10

Abstract

Soil contamination and accumulation of tracers into agricultural products in the industrial regions is one of the most important environmental issues that threaten the life of human, animals and plants. Due to using water, soil and air,the plantsplay a fundamental role in changing the ecological conditions and they can be used for clearing the ecosystems affected by a variety of contaminants including heavy metals.Because Aloe Vera is increasingly used in the food and hygienic industries today, in this study, the accumulation of tracers, Zn, Cd,Pb into soil as well asAloe Vera plant was examined at the three selected regions(Boshher,Galedar,Aghili). The amount of lead, zinc, cadmium existing in the soil and various organs of the plant was measured. The results obtained by variance analysis showed that the level of zinc and cadmium elements in soil did not exhibit any significant difference at the level 5%, whereas that of lead had a significant difference at the level 1%. The data obtained by SPSS software was analyzed and the mean comparison was conducted by LSD and the figures were drawn by Excel software. Then, the concentration of those tracers (lead, zinc and cadmium) in the plant gel was measured within the three regions. The mean values oftracers’ concentration existing in the Galedar, Busheher andAghilirespectively were (unit in mg/kg) 0.7233, 0.5433, 0.055 for cadmium, 20.0433, 143.200 and 19.176 for lead and 4.159, 8.953and 3.93 for zinc.
