The Iranians nurses Attitude toward DNR Order

Abstract

Background: the nurses greatly are faced with DNR orders and Can play an important role in the decision-making process and the implementation of it but a little research examined their attitudes and how they are dealing with DNR orders. This study aimed to evaluate the attitudes of nurses in DNR order for patients in the later stages of life, was carried out Methods: In a descriptive-analytical study, 152 nurses were enrolled as quota sampling from educational hospitals affiliated to Kermanshah University of medical sciences. The tool was a researcher-made questionnaire. Data was entered to SPSS 21 software and analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: the mean of attitude to DNR was 3.25, which the univariate t-test showed a significant positive attitude to DNR (P>0.001). Nurses that had experience of participating in implementation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation) p=0.012) an DNR order (p<0.001), had more positive attitude about DNR order than nurses had not. Conclusions: Nurses in the research are agreeing with DNR order: Due to the positive attitude of nurses toward DNR orders and a lack of guidance in this regard, the authorities should seek to develop guidelines in accordance with the Iranian Islamic culture. Implementing of this directive, requires a comprehensive training to various groups including patients, doctors, nurses, administrators and policy makers of the health system.
