THE LAST REPRESENTATIVE OF A MOVEMENT IN THE REPUBLIC PERIOD: ERNIS VILLAGE INSTITUTE

Abstract
With the educational campaign having started with the Republic, efforts were made to increase the schooling rate and fulfill the teacher requirements of the schools. In this context, “First Teacher School” and “Village Teacher School” were established. Furthermore, “Public Training Centers” were founded and then “Public Schools” were launched to increase the rate of literacy. Additionally, in order to educate the public in rural parts and to train teachers to guide the villagers “Village Teachers Law” was enforced. Accordingly, “Village Institutes” were founded. The last of the institutes founded was opened in Van-Ernis in November 18 of 1948. Ernis Village Institute would educate the teachers this region requires. Village Institutes were active until the rule of Democratic Party government. During this government, Institutes were deployed and teacher high schools were established instead, therefore the Institute in Ernis was not long-termed.
