The Level and Structure of Primary Disability due to Diabetes Mellitus Among Young People

Abstract
The state of the primary disability (levels, structure, regional characteristics, causes) in diabetes mellitus among young people in Ukraine was studied. Statistical data from centers and medical and social assessment institutions of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, 23 regions of Ukraine, Kyiv and Sevastopol (total of 15 824 people, including 4403 young people) have been analyzed for 2007, 2009, 2011. It was found that the rate of growth of primary disability level in persons aged from 18 to 39 years with type 1 diabetes mellitus per five years was 10.4 %, whereas the level of disability in older age groups decreased by 14.9 %; value of the rate of growth by regions vary considerably. The main cause of disability — disability due to a general disease, in diabetes mellitus type 1 childhood disability is of great importance, its severity is higher compared to disability due to general disease.
