The level of student understanding of the terms "engineering culture" and "cultural engineering" and the role of the university in its development

Abstract

This study examined the students' level of understanding of the terms "engineering culture" and "cultural engineering" and the role of universities in the development of descriptive and survey type. The study population included 95 university students in Tehran in the academic year 1394 based on the variance of statistical samples, a sample size of 765 was calculated using the formula. Multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method was used population. Due to the high volume of population, sampling was conducted in two stages. Firstly, the use of the formula sample size of 22 state universities, PNU and the Islamic Azad University in the province and 10 were selected by simple random sampling. In the second stage, stratified sampling method proportional to the population of the study was used in each of the 10 university. In this study, the two instruments semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were used, respectively. Interview to assess students' perception of the words "engineering culture" and "cultural engineering" as well as awareness of the difference between them and provide basic guidelines for the promotion and development of "engineering culture" and "cultural engineering" was conducted by adopting the 3 questions . Made questionnaire has 10 questions with a range of five options (from very high to very low) to assess the role of the university in the development of these two words as well as an ideal measure of the difference between culture and society was prepared students. The mean score of 4/37 expert evaluation (in the range of five Likert), indicating that the validity of the tool. The reliability of the instrument after the pilot study using Cronbach's alpha coefficient that is equal to the true 0/87 reliability level is desirable. To analyze the data obtained from the use of indices measuring instruments in addition to the frequency and percentage descriptive statistics, t-test statistical method was used in inferential statistics. The results of the students' perception of the words "engineering culture" and "cultural engineering" showed that among the 765 students studied at public universities, PNU and Islamic Azad Only 9/02 percent of students in Tehran province compared to the word "engineering culture" and "cultural engineering" have awareness of perception And have been able to offer a full compliment of two words that awareness is also due to the non-academic books. However, the 90/98 percent of the students in addition to providing a definition for the first time they had heard wrong. There is awareness of the word "engineering culture" and "cultural engineering" only in the 9/02 percent of the students was very low. This can be a disadvantage for our universities is not a large enough proportion of cultural issues and failed to raise students' awareness in this area.
