The Management Of Distal End Radius Fractures In Adults

Abstract

This document is intended towards the study of different types of fractures of distal end radius in adults, their management with different modalities of treatment. AO classification for distal end radius fractures has been considered and the cases have been treated accordingly. The treatment options, non-surgical inclusive of closed reduction and cast immobilization, surgical with ‘K’ wires, plates, external fixators or combination of these modalities have been used. The treatment goal is full functional recovery of the wrist with prerequisites of restoration of anatomy and early function after treatment in accordance to the treatment guide lines. The ultimate goal to study the outcome of different modalities of treatment and in minimizing the complications of distal end radius fractures in adults has been upto the mark. We have studied 120 cases, if we know about the exact nature of the injury, the type of fracture, the extent of the fracture line and anticipate a treatment plan with a specific treatment option, can lead to a better result in maintaining a stable reduction at the fracture site with a low incidence of complications and unsatisfactory results, however the surgeons personal preferences do vary as the treatment plan is considered.
