THE MEDICAL GEOGRAPHY CONCEPTION ON DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY OF THE ODESSA’ UNIVERSITY

Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of thе article is to compare the state of medical geography as an academic discipline in ONU 50 years ago and today, and on this basis identify trends in the development of this important geographical discipline. Methodology. As the material for this work were used the graduate work of the author on medical geography, prepared at the Department of Physical Geography in 1965, the materials collected in the process of its writing and literary sources following years of publication. Experience of the author as researcher at the sanitary and epidemiological institutions of Odessa and the region also significantly helped. The importance for the author were the works and consultations of professor of the Department of Physical Geography G. V. Vykhovanets that reads this course from 1996. Results. During last decade of XIX century, medical geography discipline appeared on physical geography department of earlier Imperial Novorossia University in Odessa, Russia. In Odessa University, after long interval, this discipline became development in period of the 40th–50th XX century firstly as a curse and diploma thesis. With 1961 special medicine geography chapter was teach in strength of «Biogeography» discipline. Contents of first medical geography student diploma manuscript, which prepared on the Department, was analyzed. But during the 70th–80th of XX century the discipline was immobilized from current educating plan of physical-geography speciality of the University. However, this teaching was restored to end part of the 80th.. Beginning with 1996 medical geography is teaching on principles of systematic geographical science. The Professor prepared texts of the lectures and several special practices.
