The military pastors of the military districts and the army of the Russian Empire during the First World War

Abstract

Based on historical sources and historiography deals with the organization of the activity of military pastors, included in the staff of military districts and the army of the Russian Empire during the First World War. Special attention is paid to the recruitment and management of military staff and field pastors, part of which was included in the part of the army with the outbreak of war. The aim of the study is to determine the influence of the command of military districts and the army in the activities of military pastors in that period. Def ined that military pastors to obey to their spiritual boards and the military command. The latter had a wide role in defining the regular number of military pastors, their recruitment and organization activities. It is noted the impact of the policy of fight against German dominance on the activities of the pastors of the army during the First World War. A consequence of this policy were various restrictions, exceptions, prohibitions, and repression of the military pastors.
