Journal Title: Journal of Science and today’s world - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
The present study seeks to investigate the relationship between motivational strategies and learning strategies with academic achievement of undergraduate students of NAJA University. Research method was descriptive applying structural equation modeling. Statistical population included 564 Undergraduate students of NAJA University. 225 students were randomly selected based on Cochran formula through multistage sampling. Research instrument was part of Pintrich motivational strategies for learning questionnaire (MSLQ) including motivational strategies, learning strategies, and average of students in previous year. Data were analyzed through Pierson correlation coefficient, simultaneous multiple regression analysis, and path analysis by applying SPSS21 and LISREL 8.80 software. For path analysis of motivational strategies, learning strategies, and academic achievement, the hypothetical model of these components was designed and the components of the final model of motivational strategies, learning strategies, and academic achievement were depicted applying multiple regression analysis. It was found out that there is a significant relationship between motivational strategies and learning strategies with academic achievement of students at 99% significance level. Regression analysis outcomes revealed that the contribution of elaboration, critical thinking, self-regulation, task value, and control of learning belief in predicting academic achievement is significant. However, the share of other variables in predicting students’ academic achievement was insignificant. Path analysis revealed that elaboration, critical thinking, task value, and control of learning belief indirectly effects on students’ academic achievement through self-regulation but self-regulation has a direct impact upon academic achievement.
