The Most Discriminant Variable In Firm’s Performance Concerning Corporate Social Responsibility: A Survey Of Quoted Deposit Money Banks In Nigeria

Abstract
This survey research sought to provide information to various stakeholders of money deposit banks on the most discriminate variablein the performance of corporate social responsibility in Nigeria. A survey questionnaire was used to collect primary data on factors that influence CSR practice, by Nigerian deposit money banks. Archival documents and analysis of financial results from 2010 to 2014 of fifteen publicly listed money deposit banks in Nigeria were collected and analyzed for the five year period. This study utilized multivariate techniques of data analysis. The discriminant analysis statistical toolwas usedin the analysis. The research identified corporate social responsibility in the area of market (CSRM) as the most discriminant variable followed by corporate social responsibility in the area of work place (CSRWP) with respect to corporate social responsibility and corporate performance of the firms under study. The study recommends that companies should also publish a sustainability report as part of the corporate financial statement showing their corporate social initiatives.
